Room 210, Saturday Morning

Ezra did not know there was anything weird going on on the island. You could have even said he was blissfully unaware. That really wasn't going to last for very long.

But, he was awake and he'd showered, and the door to the hallway was open while he lazed about flipping through a magazine he'd picked up somewhere. Celebrity gossip about hot people he didn't really care about. Mmmmm.

It was quiet. It wouldn't be for long.

"Jeez, you don't have to be so loud," Ezra complained, as he came to the door, and opened it. And then peered down. "Wow, you're adorable."

She was.

"Which one are you?"

"What do you mean which one am I?" she asked, putting one small fist on her hip. "I'm me, Daddy! You know me."

Goodness, that, too, was adorable.

"I know, I know, sweetheart," he replied, just barely keeping his urge to laugh in check. He crouched down to be more at her level. "But sometimes Daddy forgets things. So, please humor me this once, princess."

She sighed like Ezra was just asking oh so much of her.

"I'm Adele," she told him very matter of factly. Her tone suggested she was proud of her name. "Adele Branna. But no one uses my middle name less I'm in trouble."

"I know it's a hardship to have to tell me, and I'm grateful," he replied. Even if that exasperated sigh had been really cute. "Thank you. It's a lovely name. I'm sure your mom thinks so too."

She shook her head at him.

"No, you're all wrong again," Adele told him, looking skyward like some unknown deity would help her. "I've got a dad and a dad. Two dads!"

"Right."

He hadn't expected that. On second thought, he knew he should have.

"You're going to think I'm the biggest bonehead there is, but I need you to help me with one more piece of information."

"What now?" she asked, sounding exasperated. "Did you fall and hit your head?"

"Maybe," he said. "Who's the other dad?"

He was just going to brave the 'tude here until he had all the facts.

"The other dad is dad!" She was too young to know him as anything other than dad, Ezra! "Uh, I have an Uncle Declan!"

Maybe that would help?

Okay, that was going to need a moment to get really processed. Because how.

"I'm sorry, maybe I hit my head worse than I thought."

Adele frowned. "Do you not like daddy now? What's wrong?"

"Oh, no, Daddy's fine." That was a quick and smooth lie. He was good at reassuring bullshit. "Nothing's wrong. I was just a little surprised, that's all."

"Why?" she asked, blinking at him. "Surprised at me? I told you who I was! Answered all your questions! Can I have a snack?"

"I guess, if you promise to not go all hyperactive on me," Ezra replied, straightening up and nodding her into the room proper. "It goes without saying you're not eating your weight in sugar."

"I'll eat half my weight then," she said like she was oh so smart. "And then half your weight too."

Ezra snickered. "You're very young and I like your thinking, so I'll give you a pass for that," he said, as he went to his desk and rummaged around for snacks. "But that's not going to happen, darling Adele."

"You're not the boss of me!" Adele said sassily. "I'll find other daddy and get him to give me snacks!"

"Does other daddy usually give you snacks?"

He was genuinely curious about this.

"Sometimes," Adele answered with a shrug of her shoulders. "Sometimes not. Sometimes we share and sometimes I get them all!"

Ezra held out a small packet of cookies her way. "I'd expect nothing less," he said. "You look like you probably get your way, often."

"That's cuz I got all the good Sagishi genes," she said, taking the cookies with a smile. "That's what you say at least. Daddy gave me my attitude."

"Oh, I bet he did," Ezra agreed with a laugh. "How much of the Sagishi genes did you get, anyway? tail and everything?"

He was checking, although really the scent told him enough.

"Only sometimes," she said, smiling up at him, eyes crinkling and nose wrinkling as she did. "It's little!"

Ezra tapped her on the tip of her nose because how could he not?

"Of course," he said. "It'll get bigger with age. But for now, you're tiny, no matter what form you're in, sweetheart."
