Room 210, Saturday Morning

Ezra did not know there was anything weird going on on the island. You could have even said he was blissfully unaware. That really wasn't going to last for very long.

But, he was awake and he'd showered, and the door to the hallway was open while he lazed about flipping through a magazine he'd picked up somewhere. Celebrity gossip about hot people he didn't really care about. Mmmmm.

It was quiet. It wouldn't be for long.

Zeke shrugged. He didn't really know the ins and outs of his parents' relationship. They were Mom and Dad and that's what mattered. "Sometimes you are? Sometimes you're not. And sometimes you threaten to turn Dad into a stole when he stays with us too long."

Parents, man. Who had the time to figure them out?

Ezra raised his eyebrows at Kathy for that one. Even though it wasn't really them, nor did he think it was likely to be entirely undeserved.

"Rude, Kathy."

Kathy didn't seem to agree with the way she started cracking up at that. "I'm so stealing that from myself!" she announced. "And don't even pretend like you're somehow blameless when I tell you that."

And some version of you in the future decided to have a kid with her. Look at your life, Ezra, look at your choices.

Not his life, not his choices! Technically speaking.

He heaved a theatrically dramatic sigh. "So are we going out for breakfast, or would you prefer to judge me and thus wound me some more?"

Can I kiss it and make it better if I do? A pity neither of them were telepathic, though way she suddenly bit her bottom lip and turned red might signal she'd thought something.

"I'm not exactly dressed to go out," she hedged, gesturing to her tank and sleeping shorts.

"Aww, c'mon, Mom!" Zeke cajoled. "Please? I wanna spend time with you guys!"

He knew his mom's weaknesses.

"And it took you a minute to come down here," Ezra added, eyeing the blush on her face and wondering what had caused that. Whatever it was, though, he was instinctively sure it was reason enough to smirk. "It'll take you two to go back up, get dressed, then come back down."

"I was in Baltimore last night and only just got to bed..."

Looking at the two of them, Kathy gave up. One Sagishi by himself was hard enough to deny. Two was downright impossible.

"Fine," she sighed. "But you're paying." She pointed at Ezra. "And no making comments about how much I can eat."

It took a lot to keep human wonderballs going.

"Yay!" Zeke said, giving his Dad a high-five. "She does eat a lot, though."

He thought it merited a special warning.

"Can I have a milkshake with breakfast?"

"Maaaybe." Oh, here he actually glanced towards Kathy for her opinion. "Unless your mom objects too loudly. Can we have milkshakes with breakfast?"

"Now I get a say," Kathy said, sticking her tongue out at him. "Yes, you can have milkshakes for breakfast, but I'd better see clean plates when we're done, hear me? And some kind of vegetable somewhere on it beforehand!"

This was going to be an argument she had a lot today.

He could work around the vegetable commandment later. For now: milkshakes!
