Room 210, Sunday Afternoon

Ava and Lock had meant to come visit this weekend. Or possibly Ava or Lock, since they were still being weird around each other. Because they were idiots. But in the end, neither ended up being able to come by. Some Coterie whatever, the usual. Alistair with an errand or something.

So, Ezra was spending his Sunday the way the gods had intended him to: by sprawling on his bed. And flirting with people over texts.

It was pretty great.

"But it might be distracting?" Kathy suggested, leaning down to pull her shoes on. "Seriously, though, Ezra. You don't, umm, have to worry? I'm not about to get all emotional at you or whatever. That's not what this is. We're cool."

The best part about this? It was guaranteed to be a short conversation because she had to go. But she wanted to make sure he knew she wasn't getting, well, mushy. At him.

"Good," Kathy said, looking relieved. She figured that was a problem that crept up on Ezra a lot, at least with people he dallied with more than once, and she wanted to be clear that that wasn't a concern, here.

But since it wasn't, that meant she could tease a little as she ran her fingers through her hair to bring back some semblance of order. "Sorry your dick is magic, but not enough to be the key to my heart. I'll let you pine over that while I herd my family off the island."

Honestly, that was a lot easier to picture than Ezra crying. At least, crying real tears. "See you later, Ez," she said as she finished twisting her hair up. "Be good."

That admonishment had her laughing as she let herself out the door.

You know what? She was feeling a lot better than she had all weekend.
