"Well, that's her right," Ezra replied, still amused. "But it was either that or suggesting you call her down here for a practical demonstration."

He was a troll, sometimes.

"Oh my god, do you think she'll come if you did?" Sarah asked, eyes wide.

...Phrasing, Sarah, please.

Ezra couldn't help snickering at that one. Sorry. (He wasn't all that sorry, but still.)

"Mm. She might."

Ezra was never sorry.

"You should call her!" Sarah said. "I want to see what she does! Tell her I'm here! No, wait, don't tell her! I want to see what she's like when I'm not around!"

"And how do you propose to do that?" Ezra wondered as he reached for his phone. What the hell, right? "Do you intend to hide in a closet if she shows up?"

"Can I?" Sarah asked. Because of course this seemed like a brilliant idea to a fourteen-year-old. Spying on her perfect big sister? This would be amazing. "Do it do it do it!"

She was maybe trusting Ezra to play along a little too much. But he wasn't going to tell her that – for one thing, he was yet to decide how much he intended to play along.

It depended on what would be the most amusing to him.

But, he dialed Kathy's number.

The entitlement of youth.

"Hi Ezra," Kathy said when she answered her phone. Was she surprised to be getting a call from him? At least a little. A dirty text would have been one thing, but a phone call. "What's up?"

It took serious effort not to add, Is everything okay? to that. Parents' Weekend and her protective instincts were in overdrive.

Dirty texts were not efficient enough for right now.

"I was just wondering if you wanted to come down to make out with me."

That was efficient.

Sarah's jaw dropped just hearing someone ask Kathy that, never mind whatever her sister's answer was going to be.

"Just make out?" Kathy asked, laughing a little. "Ezra, are you feeling okay?"

Please don't have her on speakerphone, Ezra. Please don't say she was on speakerphone.

He didn't. Please, he had no need for speakerphone.

"Oh, just splendid. We can just see how it goes."

"I should really find out where my sister's wandered off to and make sure my parents aren't being horrible to someone..." Kathy said with all the enthusiasm those tasks warranted. There was a long pause as she wrestled with her sense of responsibility and her overall doneness with Parents' Weekend.

"...So we're either going to have to be quick or you'll have to help me come up with an amazing excuse why I didn't do those things, okay?"

"Well, you know me," Ezra replied, with an idle glance at Sarah, "I'm always good for either. See you in a bit, darling."

Sarah barely waited for Ezra to hang up before she was burbling questions. "Wait, she's really coming to make out with you? I can't believe you said that! I can't believe she agreed! What did she say? What are you always good for?"

"For whatever happens to be necessary," Ezra replied smoothly as he flopped back down on his bed. "Too many things to list here."

"Well, which two did she ask about?" Sarah asked. "Which two were those?"

Come now, Ezra. You knew how much Kathy liked to ask questions. Did you think her little sister would be any different?

Oh, he'd had no expectations. He just also knew he didn't have to give straight answers to anything he didn't feel like giving straight answers to.

(Heh. Straight.)

"This one thing, and this other thing," he said, and smirked. "Now, shouldn't you be making yourself invisible? Knowing your sister, she won't take too long to get here. She's very punctual."

"I've got ti--"

Just then, Kathy's voice floated through the door, much sooner than Sarah had expected her. But then, Sarah didn't know how fast her sister moved these days.

Squeaking, Sarah dove under the spare bed to hide.

"Ezra?" Kathy slipped through the door and raised an eyebrow at the sight of him sprawled out on his bed. "Looking as industrious as always, I see."

Ezra held up a finger, like that somehow conveyed that he had a point to make and also totally wasn't lazy. "Hey, I called you. That was industrious."

"We both know why you called me," Kathy said with a laugh, heading over to his bed. "And it has nothing to do with being industrious."

She perched on the edge where he was lounging and gave him a smile. "Hi."

Under the other bed, Sarah watched with wide eyes. She'd never heard her sister use that tone of voice before!

Ezra was probably not going to let her give her sister too much of a show. Probably.

He held out a hand. "Hello, sweetheart. Come closer."

Which was good because then Kathy probably wouldn't try to murder him. Probably.

Kathy laced her fingers through his and bent over him. "Yeeeees?" she asked, just a breath away from his lips.

Ezra gave her a little kiss.

Then he leaned up to put his lips close to her ear. On the side Sarah couldn't see, just in case, even though he also lowered his voice to a whisper. "Now, I would absolutely love for you to proceed with me through intense makeouts all the way to you riding me to a very satisfying climax," he murmured, "but I have to inform you your sister is hiding under Anna's bed."

See? He was only half evil.
