A Bar, Boston, Tuesday

In the end, Ezra had decided to drag Dante out to a bar. Not one of the Coterie ones, but still one that he'd frequented sometimes, looking to have a good time. It wasn't as high-end as, say, something within the Purgatory complex, but it was still several steps up from something like that dive he'd found Dante performing at earlier this year.

Funnily enough, this one seemed to have an open mic night going on. Or, would have - there was a flier advertising it at the door, but they were a little early. Those proceedings had not started yet as they walked in.

"It's not a bunny party," Ezra noted, glancing back at Dante with a little smirk, "but I think it works."

Ezra's quiet snort probably said well enough what he thought about that.

But what he actually said was, "Yes, hopefully."

Dante leaned a little in his direction, and slid an idle arm over his shoulders. "So are you gonna heckle me if I get up there later?"

Ezra leaned into it. Subtly getting just that fraction more comfortable.

"Well, I mean, someone should be hollering at you to take your shirt off."

"Just making sure everyone has a good time, huh?" Dante said, oh so seriously.

"Someone has to."

And Ezra was known for making those kinds of sacrifices.

Dante pulled him closer for a moment, something like a hug, maybe, before he let go. "You know, I don't think I've ever asked you what kind of music you like," he mused.

"It's not a very interesting topic, I'm afraid," Ezra replied, idle and slow. "I don't really listen music much."

Yeah, he was one of those people.

"Mostly just when I'm driving alone."

Dante made an amused noise. "You gotta like something," he said. "Or I'm just going up there to play metal covers."

"Play what makes you happy, darling," Ezra retorted (because that was clearly something that needed a retort). "I like classical music best."

"You're hopeless," Dante sighed good-naturedly. "Fine, I'll figure something out. But you owe me another drink."

"Oh, do I?" Ezra replied lightly, with an elegant eyebrow raise. "More of the same, or did you have another request in mind?"

Dante downed the rest of his strawberry drink before he answered.

"Find me the drink with the dirtiest name," he decided.

"You are predictable, darling," Ezra told him, even though he wasn't. Not with the state of their relationship.

This was another one of those that required a very thoughtful tête-à-tête with the bartender. And also some googling, as it turned out. But in the end, there was a small glass of something pink being handed to Dante. "Here you go, cupcake. A Creamy Pussy," Ezra told him with a smirk, before holding up his own glass. "But I couldn't decide which was actually the dirtiest, so I got a Cocksucking Cowboy for myself, just to be sure I had all my bases covered."

As you do.

"Also, we came to the conclusion that the dirtiest drinks tend to be shots."

In fact, asking Ezra had all the hallmarks of a potentially dangerous decision under the circumstances. It was mostly some - carefully delineated - instinctive brinksmanship at play here.

"That's kinda sad when you think about it," Dante mused. "Where's the sex drinks with stamina?"

"I think they may just be trying to be quick about it so that people may then proceed to the actual sex," Ezra quipped, before shrugging. "But I don't know. Maybe it's just a flaw in the people who invent these things."

"Probably never got laid right," Dante sighed.

Not that this kept him from slamming back his drink. At all.

Ezra was being much slower with his.

"'Right' is a matter of personal taste, anyway."

"And experience," Dante added idly.

"That, too," Ezra replied thoughtfully. "But I'd suppose that falls under the umbrella of developing a personal taste."

"So that's all I'm saying," Dante said, holding up his mostly-empty glass. "Sex shots are made by people who like, think they got it figured out, but don't."

"Putting more focus on booze than sex has always been a mistake in my book."

And definitely not just because he had to drink way more than an average person for it to have an effect.

Dante made a faintly amused noise. "You would think that," he said.

Look, it wasn't like he pretended not to be a functional alcoholic.

"Well, obviously."

"See, I like variety," Dante said brightly. "Why not both?"

"Because alcohol is inherently mostly boring?"

It was the fox take on it.
