Ava and Lock had meant to come visit this weekend. Or possibly Ava or Lock, since they were still being weird around each other. Because they were idiots. But in the end, neither ended up being able to come by. Some Coterie whatever, the usual. Alistair with an errand or something.

So, Ezra was spending his Sunday the way the gods had intended him to: by sprawling on his bed. And flirting with people over texts.

It was pretty great.

"Not unattractive?" Sarah pouted at him. "And here I was talking nice about how hot you are." You could do better, Ezra, c'mon! She had a healthy teen ego to feed. "And I looked you up because I wanted to know who you are. You know my sister. Know her pretty well, Dante says."

Yep, Sarah was still fishing for information. Because the way Kathy had acted when she'd brought up Ezra's name had been very interesting.

As if he needed to ask. He was doing so for fun.

Normally, Sarah would have responded with a snarky answer--there weren't a lot of girls around here who she could be related to, after all--but he'd just called her darling and that was enough of a distraction.

"Kathy," she said. "I'm told you're...friends?"

She would never believe him if he told her about the 'with-benefits' designation.

Too bad. They were such great benefits, too!

Ezra smiled at her. "Ah, Kathy. You could most definitely say that." He wasn't even hinting at the benefits. He was just generally a little smirky. "She's a very dear friend."

"Which, okay, is weird enough to hear--" though Sarah was pleased her nerdy big sister was making friends at all, so go her, "--but I heard that you also taught her how to flirt. Which, like, blows my mind every time I think about it. Is it true? Did you? Is she actually any good at it?"

"Oh, she'd very good at it," Ezra said, nodding very seriously. If you disregarded the smirk. "She's a very attentive student like that. Very committed to learning the art of flirting."

"Oh, that explains it, then!" Sarah said, snapping her fingers. "She sees it like a class or something. Okay, yeah, that makes sense. Trust my sister to make flirting nerdy."

She was still watching Ezra was interested eyes. "Are you guys dating? You're not, like, her secret boyfriend or something, right?"

Oh, Sarah, no.

Ezra was nice and didn't snort or otherwise act overly amused. He shook his head. "No, I'm perfectly unattached. We're just friends." He shrugged a shoulder. "I mean, of course we've kissed, but still. I'm single."

"You kissed my sister?!" Sarah didn't know whether to be shocked, disbelieving, proud, or appalled.

"Repeatedly," Ezra said, smiling in a mock innocent fashion. "Should I not have done that?"

"Repeatedly?!" Sarah squeaked, her hands clapping over her mouth. "But--that's, like, more than just once!"

Now he looked amused. "The usual way, you know, lips to lips," he said. "She's a good kisser."

He shrugged.

"That's the one. You can always ask her if you don't believe me."

"She won't tell me," Sarah complained. "She doesn't tell me anything. She didn't tell me she was going around getting good at kissing hot guys!"

"Well, that's her right," Ezra replied, still amused. "But it was either that or suggesting you call her down here for a practical demonstration."

"Oh my god, do you think she'll come if you did?" Sarah asked, eyes wide.

Ezra couldn't help snickering at that one. Sorry. (He wasn't all that sorry, but still.)

"Mm. She might."

Ezra was never sorry.

"You should call her!" Sarah said. "I want to see what she does! Tell her I'm here! No, wait, don't tell her! I want to see what she's like when I'm not around!"

"And how do you propose to do that?" Ezra wondered as he reached for his phone. What the hell, right? "Do you intend to hide in a closet if she shows up?"

"Can I?" Sarah asked. Because of course this seemed like a brilliant idea to a fourteen-year-old. Spying on her perfect big sister? This would be amazing. "Do it do it do it!"

She was maybe trusting Ezra to play along a little too much. But he wasn't going to tell her that – for one thing, he was yet to decide how much he intended to play along.

It depended on what would be the most amusing to him.

But, he dialed Kathy's number.

The entitlement of youth.

"Hi Ezra," Kathy said when she answered her phone. Was she surprised to be getting a call from him? At least a little. A dirty text would have been one thing, but a phone call. "What's up?"

It took serious effort not to add, Is everything okay? to that. Parents' Weekend and her protective instincts were in overdrive.

"I was just wondering if you wanted to come down to make out with me."
