A House, Currant, Maine, Thursday

Ezra had not bailed on the plans he'd made with Kathy a while back. He had, of course, been the recipient of many an invite to various Halloween parties in Boston and its surroundings, but... Yeah. Sometimes a man just wanted a cheesy movie night with old friends, right? It didn't necessarily have to have anything to do with how he couldn't even remember when this particular combo of friends had spent any time with just the three of them present.

Right.

Anyway, the living room was all set for movie watching. The coffee table - with no books in sight anywhere, probably much to Kathy's disappointment - was all loaded up with snacks and drinks of all kinds. The amount of it all was truly ridiculous, until you took into account how no one present exactly had a normal metabolism to begin with.

"Right, what have you got?" Ezra asked, flopping down on one end of the couch. "I hope you know that if any of them have were-anythings in them, you're both banned from this house."

And he knew how ~~neurotic~~ nervous Kathy could be, especially when she wanted something to go really, really well.

"Hey, I'm just standing up for one of the best and most unfairly-maligned vegetables," she informed them, sneaking the last of the snacks onto the table, which practically groaned under the weight of food. "It's not my fault you both are heathens."

She flopped down onto the couch next to Dante. "Heathens who are gonna end up with, like, adult-onset rickets, just you wait."

"Foxes are genetically too fabulous to get rickets," Ezra decided.

Predictably.

"I have a feeling Nephilim might be, too."

"I lived off of nothing but Mooby's for like a year," Dante said lazily, "And I grew up fucking hot."

And slid his arm around Kathy's shoulders. Maybe to try and help ground her, hush.

"I don't understand how you can both be so hot and so wrong at the same time," Kathy said, body relaxing with the contact.

"It's because of all that glorious lack of broccoli," Ezra informed her, immediately.

"Unhealthy food makes guys prettier," Dante said solemnly, hugging her close.

The other arm wound up near Ezra's shoulders, because he had no trouble at all about being in the middle here.

Just he wait till Kathy decided to sprawl out over him to get some Ezra cuddles of her own in anyway.

"You're both awful and I have no idea why I like you," Kathy announced, reaching for a candy bar. "I also appreciate that neither of you denied being wrong, just leaned real hard into the pretty."

Ezra let his head tilt back against Dante's arm. While scoffing. "I, for one, tend to ignore statements that are patently untrue and focus on the parts that are right," he said. "No point in denying something that's too ludicrous to be true."

"Also," Dante said conspiratorially, "We? Are just very, very, very pretty."

Don't ask how he managed to bring up the remote with his foot, but he did.

"I dunno..." Kathy said, pretending to mull it over. "Starting to wonder if you both aren't a little insecure about it. You don't hear me going on about how pretty I am."

Yes. They were the ones with the self-esteem issues.

Yeah, Ezra was just going to turn his head towards Dante, right about now.

"Can you thwap the back of her head for me, or something, darling?"

Dante didn't thwap her.

He did, however, reach up... and mussed her hair but good.

"Now, neither of you get my tasty popcorn seasonings," Kathy decided, petting her hair down into order.

Ezra... just looked smug.

He had his reasons! Reasons that had to do with how he was going to steal so much popcorn seasoning now, yes.

"Oh, he's definitely going to eat them now," Dante said, laughing, and grabbed the remote with some effort so he could turn on the movie.

Kathy took that opportunity to slip into Dante's lap, intending to half drape herself across Ezra, too, if he didn't look like he'd mind. "Nope," she declared. "I'll stop you."

She would do nothing of the sort.

Even with all of his sort-of well-repressed uncertainty about this whole situation, Ezra wasn't anything less than willing to let her sprawl exactly as much as she wanted to.

Even if he still snorted at her declaration, too. "Oh, big words, cupcake."

Dante sighed, settling his arm over Kathy's back as he got the first movie going. Something about space monsters? Fuck if he knew.

"Should I let you guys fight this out, or should I step in," Dante mused. "Decisions."

"If you don't, there's liable to be a catfight in your lap," Kathy teased, giving Ezra a saucy grin from where her head was resting on his thigh.

"Anyone starting a fight with me in my own house is getting booted out," Ezra pointed out. While mussing up Kathy's hair again. And then trying to flick her on the nose. "You know that's against the house rules."

Which he just kept making up on the spot as he went along.

"Yeah, you might wanna think about posting those on the door or something," Dante joked. "Might make everyone's lives easier."

"There seems to be a new one every time I visit," Kathy said sadly. "Most of them about what I can do with my face." She gave Dante the expressly forbidden sad eyes. "I'm starting to worry he doesn't like it."

Ezra immediately went ahead and covered her eyes with his hand. It did not matter that it was directed at Dante when her head was on his thigh.

He tsked. "Oh, you know those are outlawed."

"The puppy dog eyes?" Dante guessed. He made an amused noise. "Don't worry about him, Kat. I love your face. And that look doesn't work on me anyway."

"It doesn't and it's the worst," Kathy said, leaning up to nip at the palm of Ezra's hand. She doubted she'd actually be able to catch it since she wasn't using her speed, but hey. Fun to try. "I think it's less that it works on Ez and more that he's appalled I made the attempt."

Or maybe they did work but like he was ever going to admit that.
